Prior to attaching to the womb’s wall, an embryo has to break out or, ‘hatch’ from its outer layer called ‘Zona pellucida.’  Creating a hole in the outer layer or thinning it may allow embryos to ‘hatch’, thus enhancing the chances of the woman becoming pregnant in certain cases. However, it is worth mentioning that assisted hatching cannot augment the quality of embryos.

Is assisted hatching suitable for all?

Experts do not suggest assisted hatching in all patients undergoing IVF treatments. According to studies assisted hatching might increase the likelihood of pregnancy for certain groups of patients such as women who could not get pregnant in previous IVF cycles.
